DOJ report shows academy lacked equipment, and staff lacked training.

AVON PARK | A report detailing the August riot at a Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Southeast Polk County revealed a multitude of staff and facility blunders, including a lack of training, security cameras and handcuffs.
The report, written by the Department’s Office of the Inspector General and released on April 4, prompted changes to how the Avon Park Youth Academy facility will operate, notably the installation of cameras, as well as decreasing the number of teens held at the facility and increasing the number of staff at the facility that is operated by a private security company.
